Fix The Oppo A7 Black Screen of Death

The OPPO A7 is a mid-range smartphone released in late 2018. It’s a good device for the user that does not want to spend over $1000 on a flagship phone. The display is a 6.2-inch IPS LCD with a 720 x 1520 p resolution. It comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection as a bonus.

The smartphone only has a dual rear mounted camera setup with a 16 MP front-facing camera. Which is good but won’t satisfy the photography nerds among users. It has a SnapDragon 450 octa-core processor that does not make it slow but it is on the lower end on memory with 4GB of RAM.

Black Screen of Death

This is a popular term that describes the situation where a device is powering on but only shows a black screen. Making interfacing quite impossible for the user. This can be a software issue but it often happens when the device is dropped, takes water damage or is otherwise mishandled.

No battery. The most obvious and stupid reason for a black screen is a dead battery. So, eliminate this reason first before moving on the list. The charging logo that prompts you to energize the device may be obscured by low screen brightness and poor ambient lighting.

  • Clean the charging port by using compressed air from a can
  • Let the phone charge, a dead battery takes a while to light up the phone
  • Try different cables and adaptors to rule that issue out

Soft reset. Some data may be rudely corrupting the basic operations on your device. To purge the data and force the phone to turn on, press the Power and Volume buttons for 45 seconds.

Safe mode. An app you installed can be faulty and result in the black screen of death issue. The reason for that could be a simple compatibility issue between the app and the OS. This, in turn, obstructs you from interacting with the display. Try Safe mode to rule this out.

  • Turn off your phone
  • Hold down the Power button
  • Release the Power button when the OPPO logo appears
  • Hold down the Down Volume button until Safe mode appears
