WhatsApp is Working on a Boomerang – Like Feature

Recent studies determined that the average user tends to drain more than 30% of the battery of their smartphone with social apps like Facebook, Instagram and others. While you might believe that the number looks a bit exaggerated, you can go to the power management settings of your phone and check which apps drained the battery and how much they did.

All about the stories

Everybody knows that Facebook’s apps offer Story functionality (similar to their Instagram counterpart). It seems that Instagram’s Boomerang feature captivated the focus of Facebook, as a trust worthy source leaked that WhatsApp developers are working on a Boomerang style feature for iOS devices, that will extend to Android at some point too.

The Boomerang function allows users to loop a video back and forwards, making it look like a GIF, and WhatsApp is aiming to replicate a similar implementation for their platform, designed for videos shorter than seven seconds.

Implementation

WhatsApp’s Boomerang feature will appear as an output option when choosing a format for a file intended for sending.

Release date

The function itself isn’t official yet, so it makes sense that a release date was not announced, but it’s likely that developers of the app are trying their best to implement the feature as soon as possible.

While some people argue that it’s a useless feature, the rest believe that it’s a nice little quirk to have available in the messaging app. What’s your opinion about the subject?
