Xiaomi Wants Testers for the Android Pie Update on MI TV 4A

Besides the fact that they are disrupting the market with reasonable prices, Xiaomi is also successful in the world of TV sales and its Mi TV lineup. They are very popular in the South East Asian markets. Let us take a clear example: The Mi TV 4A was launched in 2018, and it came with the Patchwall user interface. It was based on Android Nougat. This one should soon get the Android Pie-based OS. Before this update, Xiaomi has stated that there will be a pilot testing program for this update. The models available were Mi TV 4A 32-inch and 43-inch models. They need early testers for the update.

Will we be able to use the Google Assistant?

When it comes to the features, we have heard something about the Google Play Store and the Google Assistant. However, since TVs do not really support BLE, you won’t be able to actually directly use the Google Assistant, even if you have a remote with a select button for it. However, you would be able to use any kind of Google Home device or the Home app to trigger the Assistant.

The update also came with inbuilt Chromecast support, and, probably, a Full HD playback for the YouTube app.

The Product Manager from Xiaomi, Sudeep Sahu, calls this situation a giant leap since the features were not available for the Xiaomi smart TVs before. Users were basically forced to rely on other alternatives, such as the Aptoide TV app store.

What do people think?

Even if it is based on Android, they don’t really “get along” with the other Android TVs when it comes to app support and, well, buyers. The company has launched Mi TV 4A PRO series with the full Android TV experience. Ever since then, it got many requests with regards to updating the older models to a somewhat similar experience.
