New rumors regarding Diablo 4 have started to flood the industry as Blizzard’s ex-chief Mike Morhaime has been talking about the game studio’s many titles that were laid off. Presumably, an amount of 50 percent of the games has been canceled, while the other 50 percent are under development. The games under work will reportedly be released later, going onto selling millions, like popular titles such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch and Diablo did.
Discussing the game studio’s action-RPG series Diablo, ex-boss Morhaime mentioned the harsh launch of Diablo 3 and its sparsely designed auction house. After trading products have become so widespread in the second title, Blizzard tried to balance this but failed.
After that, back in 2018, Diablo was big news again, when the game studio revealed the mobile game Diablo Immortal, much of the disappointment of the franchise’s frantic fanbase. Morhaime said that Blizzard attempted to manage expectations that they were not going to reveal Diablo 4 at Blizzcon. However, the ex-boss noted he is not sure that information got through. And he was right, as participants at the Blizzcon were expecting a huge announcement but were upset to hear that the title was being launched exclusively on mobile phones.
The unveil has fans feeling a bit more worried about the popular series’ future, and many have shared their opinions on the Blizzard’s forum. A post from a user named Gimpzor notes an apparent leak that Diablo 4 will be in first-person perspective, designed within Overwatch’s engine. The thread is abounding of fans asking for more content in the series and overall resentment of Diablo Immortal.
Activision Blizzard still has a long way to go to make fans return on the Diablo series side. In the meantime, you can revisit and replay Diablo 3 on the Nintendo Switch.
