Samsung as expected launched Galaxy Note 3 at IFA Event in Berlin today which was also one of the highly anticipated smartphones of the year after the April launch of Galaxy S4. The Galaxy Note 3 raises eyebrows and is always a benchmark with the specifications it includes always which are mostly high end, but it also competes with Samsung’s own flagship device Galaxy S4. Lets analyze step-by-step how it compares and which one you should finally get.
Display & Build
The Samsung manages to create brilliant AMOLED screens which have resolution of FULL HD which is great for best smartphone experience. The Galaxy S4 screen size is 5-inch and the Galaxy Note III featured Super AMOLED Full HD 1080p display with the pixel density of 383ppi (441 ppi of Galaxy S4 due to small size). Both have same type of display which has high saturation that leads to bright colors and fantastic experience! The build quality – as we know Samsung is fond of keeping the back of the smartphone made of plastic for its overall Galaxy devices, the back of Galaxy Note 3 has changed, unlike the glossy plastic cover this smartphone has a faux leather back cover, complete with a stitch around the edges which feels and makes it easy to grip over. Still its a plastic but with different texture which atleast in our eyes make it little different from Galaxy S4. Note 3 is in rectangular shape and weighs around 168gms where as Galaxy S4 weighs 130gms which makes the weight difference almost negligible.
Galaxy Note III comprises of same camera as Galaxy S4, there were some rumours that it might be different or even higher megapixels but all seemed false. The camera is 13-MegaPixel, ear shooters, with a BSI sensor, LED flash, zero shutter lag and Smart Stabilization. The camera consists of all features which Galaxy S4 does – including Drama Shot, Sound & Shot, Animated Photo, Eraser, Best Photo, Best Face, Beauty Face, HDR, Panorama, and more. The front camera is same at 2-MegaPixel.
PROCESSOR & PERFORMANCE
Samsung will launch two variants of Galaxy Note III just like Galaxy S4. The first can be said to be same Galaxy S4 U.S. version also called LTE version which would feature 2.3 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor while the second variant which will be for 3G networks will house 1.9 Ghz Octa core processor (quad-core 1.9 Ghz ARM Cortex-A15 + quad-core 1.7Ghz ARM Cortex-A7). The Galaxy Note 3 also boasts 3GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 GPU, and 32GB or 64GB internal storage, which is further expandable via microSD up to 64GB.
Whereas Samsung Galaxy S4 features same kind of idea, it carries 1.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 600 with 2GB RAM for LTE supported countries whereas for other variant called GT-i9500 has Exynos 5410 Octa-core processor. We appreciate that Samsung has eliminated 16GB variant for Galaxy Note III as we have seen lot of initial storage issues due to bloatware taking around 9-10GB space in Galaxy S4 with many more features in Note III than S4 we expect it to take more space for S-Pen type features. Please note, in average usage you may not feel any performance difference between Galaxy S4 or Note 3, however the benchmarks show huge difference so Gamers would love it. OPERATING SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE
Galaxy Note III will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is still the latest version of Android, however Android 4.4 KitKat has been announced but still not rolled out for any devices. However it has miniscule performances and changes from Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which runs on Galaxy S4 and one may not find much difference, we do expect Galaxy S4 to get Android 4.3 by October this year. Note 3 would have same TouchWiz UI overlay and numerous features like Air View, Motion Gestures which are available in Galaxy S4. New features like Scrapbook, S Finder, Pen Window, and My Magazine, along with a lot of new (upgraded) S-Pen related apps, such as Air Command, Action Memo, and Screenwrite are launched with Note 3, you can preview this features in promotional video which is provided below.
It is quite similar to Galaxy S4 the way battery is provided in Note 3. However battery capacity is 3200mAh, being 0.6-inch bigger screen size we expected Samsung to use that space for more battery capacity as Note 3 screen and processor both are power hungry. Galaxy S4 has 2600 mAh battery and both are removable, we might soon see the launch of extended batteries.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is one of the best phablets available in 2013, if you love LARGE display and have no handling issues then this is your neat choice. You can forget thinking twice which other smartphone/phablet to go for if planning to purchase one sooner. However size could be only concern.
